Severe Weather Text Alerts

At the Wave 94 Weather Center, we work hard to notify you of severe weather. As someone who has been through a tornado and several hurricanes, there is nothing more important to me than making sure you are weather aware.

The Wave 94 Weather Center has partnered with Southeast Area Severe Weather (SASW) to bring free severe weather text alerts to some counties in the Big Bend and South Georgia. They have over 600,000 people signed up for this service who depend on it for alerts.

It is my hope that with the recent hurricanes and severe storms in mind that our Wave 94 listeners will sign up for this free service. It is critical to making sure you stay alert and aware, especially in the event of a power outage.

Some details about these alerts:

1) You will receive alerts for free.

2) You will only receive alerts for severe weather in your area based on the county (or counties) you sign up for.

3) You will receive the alerts based on the warnings and advisories we post on our Wave 94 Facebook page. Often those posts aren’t seen until later and we need a way to make sure you get warnings immediately.

4) You will also receive alerts during a severe weather event updating you as to the status of storms, but ONLY during a severe weather event. We do not want to send you unnecessary text messages and only want to alert you to severe weather.

5) These alerts are done by a team who receives NWS alerts and gets them to you. They include local meteorologists and forecasters who are familiar with these areas and can pinpoint with accuracy where the severe weather is in relation to your specific area.

You can join this service by texting your county name with the word “county” altogether as shown below to the number below. It’s that simple. If you live in a county that is not listed here then shoot us a message and tell us your county name and we will add it. Thanks!
